If you're interested in starting to meditate, congratulations! Meditation can provide many benefits including reducing stress, improving focus and concentration, and promoting overall wellness.
That said, meditation can also seem daunting if you've never done it before. Where do you start? What do you need to do?
1. Choose a comfortable place to sit or recline. You don't need to sit in lotus position or anything like that, just make sure you're comfortable and won't be interrupted.
2. Set a timer for however long you want to meditate. It can be helpful to start with a shorter time, like 5 or 10 minutes, and then work your way up to longer sessions.
3. Close your eyes and focus on your breath. Simply observe the sensation of your breath going in and out. If your mind wanders, that's okay, just gently bring your attention back to your breath.
4. Once your timer goes off, slowly open your eyes and resume your day.
And that's it! Those are the basics of how to meditate. Remember that there's no "right" way to meditate, so just do what feels comfortable for you. With a little practice, you'll be a meditation pro in no time.
It is a simple and quick exercise to do. Just inhale 5s and exhale 5s for 5 minutes. In addition to relaxing you, it can significantly reduce stress and anxiety. Want to try? Download our free app:
